Luxury Safari in Botswana with Wilderness Safaris

There are places that change the way you travel, and then there are places that change the way you see the world. Botswana did both.

When Wilderness Safaris invited me to photograph their camps across Botswana, I basically expected remarkable wildlife and beautiful landscapes. What I didn’t expect was to experience one of the most extraordinary expressions of luxury I’ve ever encountered. For ten unforgettable days, I traveled from camp to camp by helicopter, waking each morning to a different corner of the Okavango Delta and ending each evening beneath sunsets so breathtaking they barely seemed real.

Journal Entries from the Okavango Delta

Day 1.
Today, I met Emmanuel.
“Are you from a neighboring village?”
Me- Alabama.
Him- You should have been from a neighboring village.

Day 4.
There’s a pilot who’s overnighting at camp.
I’m trying to be cool but this man is FINE.
Like a single piece of thread, separated into 1000 strands.
That kind of fine.
Teeth made of ivory.
Skin from a treasure chest.
Insert Loretta Devine, inhale and exhale. 

Day 5.
I often wonder if I descended from royalty.
From every photo I’ve seen,
Nefertiti was the blueprint for My mom’s face.
I could have inherited  Zulu’s land and Makeda’s gold.

Day 7.
To my mother and my motherland….

Luxury, in Botswana, isn’t about excess.

Exploring Botswana’s Okavango Delta by Helicopter

A helicopter lifts you above the delta as the first light spills across the landscape and elephants wander quietly below.
Then comes arrival—an intimate safari camp where every detail feels intentional, every meal tells a story, and every member of the staff welcomes you as though you’ve returned home.
The days unfolded with rhythm and blues; singing Songs of Solomon and while narrating the pages of The Bluest Eye.

Wildlife, Fine Dining, and Unforgettable Sunsets

Early morning game drives brought us within breathtaking distance of Africa’s most iconic wildlife. Afternoons were spent exploring landscapes that felt untouched by time.  As the sun disappeared toward the horizon, we’d stop in the middle of the bush for champagne, handcrafted cocktails, and beautifully prepared meals.  The sky quickly transformed into layers of gold, orange, lavender, and crimson. However, no one can fully describe the silence that follows when the last light disappears beyond the horizon. It isn’t empty silence that very few people on this earth will ever experience.

As a photographer, I constantly search for places that evoke emotion before I ever raise my camera. Botswana gave me that every single day.

Every new camp revealed another breathtaking landscape. Every safari introduced another unforgettable encounter; blending refined luxury with a profound respect for nature, proving that elegance and conservation can exist beautifully together.

It reminded me that true luxury isn’t measured by the things often linked to vanity and prestige.
